New Zealand hunting guides professional hunting tip number 2: What is the ideal hunting cartridge in New Zealand?
For me the ideal hunting cartridge for the New Zealand hunting scene is a 7mm cartridge such as the .270 Winchester or .280 Rem. These calibers suit Red deer, Tahr and Chamois in the South Island high country. Both calibers shoot flat out to 300 metres and are good to 400 metres if the hunter is up to the task. They are very accurate, with good long range capabilities and hard hitting. I would recommend Federal 130gn Nosler Ballistic tip or 140gn Nosler Accubond in the 270Win and Hornady 150gn NP- Nosler Partition in the 280.
